(January 31, 2019) One way that Midnight Golf Program (MGP) helps students prepare for college is by helping them explore different areas of study. With the help of university partners, such as University of Detroit-Mercy, Michigan State University, Eastern Michigan University, Wayne State University and Cleary University, this fair exposed 89 students to various major options, including journalism, STEM areas, and more.
There were 24 majors represented and students had the chance to engage with college professors, academic advisers, representatives from university partners, and program directors. Based in Bingham Farms, Mich., MGP Founder and President Reneé Fluker said, “Thank you to our university and organizational partners and to the Skillman Foundation for making this opportunity possible!”
The mission of the Midnight Golf Program is to improve under-served young adults’ personal development, educational preparedness and appreciation of the game of golf.
Midnight Golf was named Best-Managed Nonprofit 2018 by Crain’s Detroit Business and Reneé Fluker also recognized as one of the Notable Women in Nonprofits 2018
The Midnight Golf Program is a 501 (c)(3) and it was founded in 2001 by Reneé Fluker, a social worker and single mother who noticed the impact golf had on her son’s life—a student golfer who encouraged her to find a way to provide other young people with the opportunity to experience the game he loved and the doors he believed it had opened for him.
