Nervous but Ready Koepka Calls Tiger Woods Before Comeback

by AAGD Staff

Brooks Koepka, the five-time major champion, has described feeling nervous ahead of his first PGA Tour start since leaving the LIV Golf League, and revealed that the first person he called after securing his release was Tiger Woods. Koepka said he reached out to Woods because of their long-standing relationship and Woods’s experience in navigating big moments in the sport, according to gulfnews.com. Woods responded supportively, listening to Koepka’s situation and helping him begin the transition back to the PGA Tour.

Koepka’s return comes via a new reinstatement pathway that allows elite former LIV players to compete again on the Tour; he is set to play in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. He admitted ahead of the tournament that the nerves he’s feeling are tied not just to competition but to how fans and peers will receive him after time away.

Beyond the professional aspect, Koepka has also been candid about personal challenges that influenced his decision to seek a return, including a difficult family experience last year that reinforced his desire to spend more time closer to home.

While Koepka has expressed excitement about this new chapter, he has stressed that he remains grateful for the opportunities and experiences he had with LIV Golf and said he has no regrets about that part of his career.

His move back to the PGA Tour has sparked broader conversations about shifting player sentiment and the evolving relationship between the two circuits, with some observers viewing his return as a potential catalyst for others considering similar decisions.
