Patrina King, the Founder and CEO of Golf Women Mean Business (GWMB), a prominent organization based in Roswell, GA, has embarked on a new endeavor by announcing her candidacy for the Gwinnett County Board of Education in District 5. With a background in business and community leadership, King aims to bring her wealth of experience and commitment to the education sector, advocating for quality education for every student in Gwinnett County.
GWMB, initiated by King in 2014 and officially incorporated on April 20, 2015, has been instrumental in empowering accomplished women through the strategic use of golf to forge valuable partnerships and enhance business and career prospects. King’s journey with GWMB has not only demonstrated her ability to lead but also underscored her dedication to fostering community engagement and growth.
In a released statement, King expressed her enthusiasm for her candidacy, emphasizing the significance of community support in her campaign. “I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for the Gwinnett County Board of Education in District 5, and I’m reaching out to you because I believe in the power of community support,” said King.
The Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) is overseen by a five-member Board of Education, with each member elected to serve a four-year term. King’s decision to enter the realm of education governance stems from her decades-long commitment to business ownership and community leadership, culminating in her desire to channel her expertise towards shaping the educational landscape of Gwinnett County.
“For the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a business owner and community leader, and now I am eager to bring my experience and dedication to the education sector,” stated King. “Education is the foundation of our community’s success, and I am committed to ensuring that every student in Gwinnett County receives a quality education.”
Among Kind’s plethera of achievements, in 2017, she took a significant step by founding Golf Women Mean Business Day in Georgia under Governor Nathan Deal, an annual celebration observed on June 6th. Her dedication and achievements to golf and community were further acknowledged in 2018 when I was honored as one of Georgia Trend’s 40 Under 40 Achievers and The Network Journal’s 40 Under 40 Achievers. In 2022, her golf journey came full circle when she was recognized as a Black History Maker in her hometown of Eatonton, GA, marking a historic moment as the first black female to play golf on the local course. A devoted wife of 21-years and mother of a young daughter, she orchestrates an Annual Teen Summit across Metro Atlanta, cultivating leaders using golf as the vehicle with a focus on active and healthy lifestyles.
King serves as PTA President and Head Fastpitch Softball Coach in Gwinnett County, coupled with volunteer work in the classroom and for organizations such as 21st Century Leaders, Junior Achievement, and Georgia State University, all reflections of her ongoing commitment to investing time in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.
As King embarks on her campaign journey, she calls upon the support of the community, emphasizing the pivotal role of each individual’s vote, voice, and endorsement in effecting meaningful change. The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. member encourages constituents to rally behind her vision for an improved education system and invites financial contributions to bolster her campaign efforts.
