Blog: December 2011
In my November blog, I spoke of the Clearview H.O.P.E (helping our patriots everywhere) program for women veterans. We are concluding our final event for 2011 on Saturday, December 3.
Our core group of women decided we needed a Christmas Party at the end of the year to celebrate and to continue to outreach to other women veterans. They adopted a veteran for Thanksgiving who will be one of the honored guests and they are adopting a veterans family for Christmas.
From the beginning of this program in May when I had the most difficult time finding women veterans, I am amazed there will be 25 in attendance for our final function. We have been able to touch for branches of service: Army, Air Force, Marine Corp and Navy. Most all will be new golfers when we begin our 2012 season, but I already have a scheduled outlined for our 5 Week Instructional Program in addition to a 9 Hole League for those who golf and a 3 Hole Instructional League for those who still need additional help getting them around the course.
If there are women in our Cleveland, Akron, Canton area interested in being a part of a program for those women who have served our country, please do not hesitate to contact me.
December is an exciting month for the LPGA as the next Q School will take place. It is especially exciting for me because I know that at least two African American young ladies will be working hard to join the ranks of the LPGA. Shasta Averyhardt will be returning to Q School and Ginger Howard will be making her first appearance. Wishing both of these young ladies the best of luck and lots of birdies. Hopefully in 2012 our LPGA Tour will have a schedule that will allow these newcomers to be able to make a living once they qualify.
It is hard to believe that we are rounding out another season and 65 years since my father, Bill Powell built Clearview Golf Course. Also as a reminder, or for those of you who are unaware, the Clearview Legacy Foundation for education, preservation and research a 501c3 tax exempt charitable foundation is the umbrella of Clearview Golf Club, so we do operate mostly on fundraising and donations. If you wish to help us preserve a vital part of American golf history, please do think about making a donation to the Clearview Legacy Foundation.
Wishing all a very Happy, Healthy and Blessed Christmas Season.
Keep practicing!!
