Shady Rest Country Club Inducted into the National Black Golf Hall of Fame

(New York, NY) — The National Black Golf Hall of Fame ceremoniously inducted the Shady Rest Country Club, the fist African American Golf Club in America, during its 39th anniversary celebration, marking a historic evening celebrating legacy, leadership, and champions in golf. The event, held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Sonesta Gwinnett in Duluth, Georgia, near Atlanta, honored the mission of Shady Rest to educate and present the rich history of the Club and John Shippen, Jr; preserve and restore the Shady Rest Clubhouse, and create a multi-purpose center and museum that is open to the public, displaying memorabilia, photographs, artifacts, and oral stores of Shady Rest.
