The Knickerbocker Golf Club’s 79th Annual Scholarship Tournament was a resounding success, held at the Alling Memorial Golf Course in New Haven, CT. Shamar Wilson, a student at Albertus Magnus College, emerged as the champion with an impressive score of 66. His performance not only secured his victory but also set a new KGC Tournament record, surpassing the previous record held by Frank Eaton, who had scored 67. Wayne Roundtree secured the runner-up position with a score of 76.
In the senior category, Frank Eaton claimed victory with a score of 76, followed closely by Charles Barbour with a score of 79. Notably, Wes Mathews, a former prominent basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks, took part as a celebrity participant, adding to the event’s appeal.
The tournament was marked by a lively atmosphere and camaraderie, offering participants an affordable and enjoyable experience. Snacks were provided on the golf course, and the event concluded with a luncheon and awards presentation that added a touch of lightheartedness. The Knickerbocker Golf Club, Inc., a longstanding organization with over 79 years of history, has been dedicated to promoting golf through various club-sponsored events, social gatherings, and community programs. Established in 1944 in New Haven, Connecticut, it is one of the oldest African American amateur golf social clubs in the United States, operating as a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization.
