The 2025 Original Tee Golf Classic (OTGC) was more than just a recreational tournament—it serves as a powerful platform for opportunity, empowerment, and the advancement of the next generation of golf talent. Founded by Wendell Haskins, a longtime advocate for diversity and inclusion in the sport, the OTGC consistently spotlights underrepresented athletes while celebrating excellence in golf. Haskins, who worked with the PGA of America and became known for his efforts to create access and recognition for Black golfers, launched the OTGC with a vision to transform the sport through representation, history, and mentorship.

This year’s event, held July 26-27 at Crystal Spring Resort, Hamburg, NJ, continued that legacy by honoring the achievements of LaRee Sugg, a trailblazer and former LPGA Tour player. A key highlight was the “Battle of the Bison,” a spirited head-to-head competition between two standout female golfers from Howard University. Their performance reflected the energy, talent, and promise of HBCU golf programs and reinforced the OTGC’s commitment to cultivating excellence through meaningful exposure and opportunity.

“We sincerely appreciate everyone who has contributed to the Original Tee Golf Classic, helping us create valuable opportunities for young golfers. The outpouring of support has been truly inspiring,” stated Haskins on his LinkedIn pag

The OTGC’s mission went beyond competition—it acted as a launching pad for elite student-athletes, offering them the visibility and support they needed to elevate their careers and inspire future generations. Through community engagement, corporate partnerships, and national media attention, the tournament continued to redefine access and excellence in the game of golf.

Haskins give a special recognition to Arcis Golf for its continued support of the elite HBCU competition, helping ensure that the OTGC had the resources and platform to make a lasting impact.
