Tiger Woods could be released from the hospital and return to his family as soon as next week following the horrible car crash which left him with two leg fractures and a shattered ankle, says fellow golfer Rory McIlroy.
Woods underwent emergency surgery to fix two leg fractures and a shattered ankle following the incident in which his Genesis GV80 SUV rolled several times around 7:12 a.m. on February 24 in Southern California.
Woods, who was conscious when reached by the emergency services, has even been keeping in contact with McIlroy by text during his hospital stay.
While appearing on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, McIlroy has shared details of Woods’ recovery to his loyal fans, adding when he is expected to return home.
McIlroy said: “Hopefully we see him back out here on Tour soon. I’ve spoken to him a little bit. He’s doing better, and I think all the guys have reached out to him.
“Hopefully, if things go well over the next week or so, he might be able to get home and start his recovery at home. That will be great for him to see his kids, see his family.
Before adding: “He texted me some words of encouragement before the final round at Bay Hill on Sunday, and things didn’t quite go to plan.
“But Tiger was the first one to text me afterwards and be like, ‘What’s going on here?’
“So even from the hospital bed he’s still giving me some heat.”
After his fellow golfers wore red shirts at the World Golf Championships to pay tribute to the 15-time major winner, Woods tweeted to share his joy.
He said: “It is hard to explain how touching today was when I turned on the tv and saw all the red shirts.
“To every golfer and every fan, you are truly helping me get through this tough time.”
