Tiger Woods’ Son Qualifies Again for U.S. Junior Amateur After Playoff Victory

by AAGD Staff

Sixteen-year-old Charlie Woods has secured his place in the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur, continuing the legacy of his father, Tiger Woods. He earned qualification through a dramatic three-way playoff at Eagle Trace Golf Club in Coral Springs, Florida.

Charlie shot a commendable one-under par 71 in Thursday’s qualifier. Though a bogey on his final hole dropped him into a tie for fifth place alongside two others, he ultimately prevailed in the playoff, claiming the final spot. His performance, especially under pressure, speaks to both his skill and composure.

This achievement allows Charlie participation in his second straight U.S. Junior Amateur, to be held July 21–26 at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas. Last year, he missed the match-play stage after shooting rounds of 82 and 80 at Oakland Hills.

Charlie’s recent form has been impressive. In late May, he won his first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title at the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort, posting a three-round score of 15-under par to claim the title by three shots . That win propelled him to No. 14 in the AJGA rankings, a remarkable jump from No. 606.

The qualifier unfolded dramatically. Charlie started on the 10th hole, birdying three of his first six, before a bogey on the ninth. He concluded with a sequence of bogey, birdie, bogey to force the playoff.

Analysts and observers have noted the importance of his playoff win as a confidence builder. Golf Monthly described it as “an impressive performance in a Florida qualifier,” remarking that Charlie showed composure when it mattered most. Charlie’s next challenge will be a 36-hole stroke-play qualifier, involving 264 competitors competing for one of the 64 match-play slots.

Though Tiger’s junior accomplishments included three consecutive U.S. Junior Amateur titles, Charlie is charting his own future. His recent victories and his playoff success suggest a young golfer forging his path, ready to make a name on his meritorious achievements.
