Alabama State University stands among the 10 HBCU schools at the forefront of the inaugural launch and activation of the “Make Golf Your Thing” consortium. The highly anticipated event is set for today, August 15, commencing at 10:30 a.m. within the welcoming embrace of the John Garrick Hardy Student Center on the ASU campus.
Distinguished speakers gracing the occasion will include ASU President, Dr. Quinton T Ross, Jr.; the university’s Athletic Director, Jason Cable; the accomplished Golf Coach, Quincy Heard; and the charismatic SGA President, Landon Hale.
This consortium represents a dynamic alliance that encompasses the White House Initiative on HBCUs, ten visionary HBCU Presidents, and the influential leadership of four esteemed commissioners from the world of golf. Orchestrated through the generous support of Make Golf Your Thing, a sweeping collaboration comprised of 89 golf organizations, this initiative also boasts significant backing from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America.
The limelight of this innovative initiative shines on ten remarkable HBCUs, including Alabama State University. These institutions, handpicked for their exceptional qualities, including Benedict College, Bennett College, Bethune-Cookman College, Delaware State University, Florida A&M University, Paul Quinn College, Texas Southern University, University of Maryland Eastern Shores, and Virginia State University, form the nucleus of this visionary endeavor. As the curtains rise on this new chapter, it’s poised to construct a scalable and sustainable model, echoing the resonant spirit of unity and progress.
