The United Golfers Association Invitational was hosted on December 14 at the Four Seasons Orlando (Fla.,) on the Tranquilo golf course. The event presented an unprecedented opportunity for participants to enjoy a competitive round of golf with some of our most talented young Black professional golfers and amateurs in America while being paired with business executives, celebrities, influencers, and entrepreneurs.
The new event also kicked off the United Golfers Association (UGA) “The Legacy Continues” Campaign, which celebrates 95-years of continued efforts in growing the game. “We are so excited to host this amazing and historic event as it’s been 45 years since UGA has hosted a golf event to bring African American professional and amateur golfers together,” said UGA Executive Director Tarek “Ty” DeLavallade of the Winter Garden (Fla.) based organization.
Invited players included players are Kamaiu Johnson, Willie Mack III, Tim O’Neal, Shasta Averyhardt, Mulbe Dillard IV, Marcus Byrd, Alexis Belton, Sierra Sims, Lakareber Abe, Jim Thorpe, Jim Dent, Matthew Vital, Barry Babbitt, Xeve Perez, and Morgan Horrell.
“Thank you to everyone who came from near and far to enjoy this magical day to bring more awareness about diversifying the sport of golf and raising money to support our goals.”
Among the celebrities and players in attendance, UGA honored Chief Marketing Officer and Innovator at The Professional Collegiate League Wendell Haskins. “Today we also honored our brother Wendell Haskins with a Trailblazer Award for his contributions in diversifying this sport we live, breathe, and enjoy,” stated Delavalade during the presentation.
