New details have emerged regarding the athletic director at Florida A&M University, Angela Suggs, and her alleged misuse of a former employerโs credit card according to WCTV.TV.
Just two months into her tenure at FAMU, Suggs, 55, became the focus of a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) investigation tied to her previous role as president and CEO of the Florida Sports Foundation โ a nonprofit organization promoting Floridaโs sports industry.
Court documents reveal that between August 2022 and August 2024, Suggs allegedly made 23 unauthorized charges using the FSF-issued credit card, with the total amounting to $23,205.56. The charges reportedly included wire transfers, ATM withdrawals, and personal expenses at casinos, which she submitted as business meals.
When questioned by FSF officials, Suggs reportedly admitted to using the wrong card for the purchases. While she reimbursed the nonprofit for some charges, others remain unpaid, and she claimed receipts were lost.
Suggs turned herself in to the Leon County Detention Facility on Monday on charges that include one count of grand theft, one count of scheme to defraud, and four misdemeanor counts related to falsifying travel vouchers. Her bond was set at $13,500, and she was released later that same day.
Although the investigation stems from alleged actions at her former job, FAMU placed Suggs on administrative leave with pay pending further review. Interim President Timothy Beard confirmed that athletics operations are temporarily overseen by deputy directors Travis Glasgow and Brittney Johnson.
In a brief statement on social media, Suggs expressed her commitment to addressing the allegations through proper channels and emphasized that they do not involve FAMU.
This remains an active investigation. WCTV and FDLE will continue to monitor developments as more information becomes available.
