Never giving up on your dream is perhaps the way 56-year old former world number one and golf Hall of Famer Vijay Singh believes life should be lived. And he certainly proved it, following this mantra during his rounds at the 2019 Honda Classic where “The Big Fijian” (his nickname) showcased a massive amount of skill. His participation put millions of spectators on guard to watch his strong finish!
Having just celebrated his February 22 birthday, the Indo-Fijian professional golfer had a commanding performance with brilliant shotmaking and tremendous stamina across the greens. As he approached each tee box his determination to play his best gained in prominence. In the end, Sing tied 6th on his own at 6-under par.
The Honda Classic pitted Singh against a strong field of contestants much younger than himself, yet finish he did. It was a highly commendable achievement for Singh, notwithstanding that at his age, he should be playing his game with other senior golfers in his mature group, on the Champions Tour!
Well, Vijay, with that performance, we can definitely say that you’re still playing excellently. Especially when one recalls how he was Number 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking for 32 weeks in 2004 and 2005.
The 2019 Honda Classic was won by Keith Mitchell at 9-under par, three strokes ahead of Vijay. Joint second were Brooks Koepka and Rickie Fowler at 8-under par.
