(April 4, 2017), NEW YORK –The Wake-Robin Golf Club, the oldest women’s golf club in America, will celebrate its 80th Anniversary with a grand Diamond and Pearl Jubilee. Honorary Chairwoman for the distinctive program is Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton. To celebrate, the organization will be hosting a two-day event that is open to the public.
The “Diamond & Pearl” Jubilee Banquet will be held on Sunday, June 4, 2017 from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, begins with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start golf tournament at the beautiful Country Club at Woodmore, 12320 Pleasant Prospect Road, Mitchelville, Maryland followed by an awards luncheon featuring Masters of Ceremony: Donnie McKethan, Radio Personality WPFW, FM 89.3.
The Keynote Luncheon Speaker will be Michael Williams, Radio Talk Show Host,“The 19thHole” WJFK, FM 106.7 Being Honored at the luncheon is Debert Cook, Publisher, African American Golfer’s Digest.
The Wake-Robin Golf Club is the oldest African American Women’s Golf Club in the United States. Their mission is to foster and perpetuate women’s interest in golf and encourage women in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area to become golfers.
“I am at a loss for words in accepting this honor,” said Debert Cook. “To be recognized by this exceptional group of women is something that touches me deeply, down to my heart and soul, and I am truly looking forward to being a part of their celebration.”
