by AAGD Staff

(NEW YORK, NY) July 19, 2023 – African American Golfers Digest (AAGD) is thrilled to announce its 20th-anniversary celebration, marking two decades of promoting and celebrating diversity within the golf community. Founded in 2003, AAGD has been at the forefront of highlighting the achievements and contributions of African American golfers while fostering an inclusive and vibrant golfing culture.

Over the past two decades, as the nation’s leading publication for avid Black American golfers, AAGD has been dedicated to breaking barriers and creating opportunities for African Americans in the world of golf. As a PGA of American Diverse Supplier, the publication has played a pivotal role in elevating the visibility of talented African American golfers, both amateur and professional, who have made significant strides in the sport.

As part of the commemoration, AAGD is publishing a Special 20th Anniversary edition of the magazine which is slated to debut in Fall/October 2023, aiming to engage golf enthusiasts and supporters from all backgrounds. The Special Edition will celebrate the Publisher, Debert Cook, as a publishing pioneer, champion of diversity, and a trailblazer of African American golf, honoring her outstanding contributions to growing the game.

Founder and President of African American Golfers Digest, Debert Cook, expressed her gratitude and excitement for reaching this historic milestone. She stated, “The past two decades have been an incredible journey for African American Golfers Digest. We have witnessed inspiring stories, celebrated remarkable achievements, and built a thriving community of golfers passionate about diversity and inclusion. This anniversary is not just a celebration of our publication, but a tribute to the pioneers who paved the way for me and for future generations.” Ms. Cook is the only African American woman to wholly own a Black-focused golf magazine.

AAGD has been a driving force in promoting the sport to younger audiences and introducing golf to communities where it was previously underrepresented. Through its various outreach programs and partnerships, AAGD has contributed to the growth of youth golf initiatives and scholarship opportunities, ensuring that aspiring young talents have access to resources and support in pursuing their golfing dreams.

To honor this momentous occasion, African American Golfers Digest invites all golf enthusiasts, industry leaders, and community members to participate in the Special 20th Anniversary Edition. The special issue will provide a platform to celebrate the achievements and public servitude of the magazine while reinforcing the message of unity and diversity within the golfing community.
