(June 13, 2019)–The Southeast Junior Golf Tour (SJGT), celebrating their 25th year, held an event at the 7781 yard Kinderlou Golf Course in Valdosta, Georgia, May 28-30, 2019. With over 1,000 junior golfers, spanning seven southeastern states, the 2019 competition will include over 35 events to be played.
Among the roster of skilled junior players is Shaun Price Jr., a 16-year-old golfer from Columbus, Georgia. Shaun Jr. is a 6’2″ tall golfer who drives in the 270-yard distances. He previously played the event at Kinderlou this past May and was the lone black golfer in the line-up. He played with confidence through the rounds and was -2 on the front nine his first day.
Overall, Shaun Jr. shot 74-76 during the two-day, 95 degrees tournament. The long, hilly, Kinderlou course was a challenge to all of the players who had to closely strategize their rounds. Although this was Shaun’s first visit to the Southeast Georgia course, his age group played the long tees, he shot 74-76 and finished fifth in his flight (16-19-year-olds).
Shaun, who plans to attend medical school, is the son of retired Army medical officer Shaun Sr., and Karen Price. Shaun Sr. retains his civilian practice is in the city of Columbus, Georgia. Both parents marveled at their son’s success and cheered him on during both days of the competition.
The Southeastern Junior Golf Tour was founded on the principle of giving junior golfers a chance to play competitive golf while building their resume for a potential collegiate golf career. In 1994 the SJGT held its inaugural event in Atlanta, GA and during that first year, had 60 members. In 2019 the SJGT will celebrate its 25th season, with approximately 35-40 events and a projected membership of more than 1,000 junior golfers.
Over the last 24 years, the SJGT has not only expanded in the number of events on our schedule and in our membership, but we have also extended the areas in which we administer tournaments. SJGT events can now be found in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee.
