Mt. Vernon Mayor Honors OTGC Founder Wendell Haskins
In honor of the 17th Annual Original Tee Golf Classic Presented by Lexus, the premiere African American amateur golf event celebrating diverse industry leaders and legends, Mt. Vernon Mayor Richard Thomas presented founder and PGA Director Wendell Haskins with a special proclamation.
Presented by Lexus, the event raised over $10,000 for the PGA REACH and PGA Junior League Golf League that provides opportunities for diverse junior golfers to participate in PGA Jr. League Golf in the PGA of America Met Section.
This year in honor of this historic milestone and in light of what is taking place in our nation and the world the organization chose to shed light on the promising future of golf by honoring emerging PGA Pro Wyatt Worthington, II.
The rising PGA Champion was the recipient of the OTGC True Original Leadership Award. “As an aspiring PGA professional golfer and educator, Wyatt exemplifies excellence, commitment and true originality on and off the court,” stated Wendell Haskins, Director of Sports & Entertainment relations at the PGA of America. “It’s a blessing to be recognized among legends. I truly appreciate the Original Tee Golf Classic honoring me with its Leadership Award,” stated Worthington, II.
The festive event took place at Wild Turkey Golf Club, Hamburg, NJ. Celebrity golfers included NBA Players John Starks; NFL Player Joey Clinkscale; TV One’s Roland Martin and others.
