Pastor Cedric Nelms
(March 28, 2011)–“Pastor” Cedric (as he likes to be called) was introduced to the game by his dad, but says that he’s only really been playing golf for the last six months. “And Now, I’m addicted. And I get into trouble with my wife for playing too much,” he confirms.
The 39-year-old, bi-vocational pastor works full-time as Pastor of The Chosen Generation Fellowship Church (Carson, CA) which he and his wife started six months ago near his home. He also works full-time as a Research & Development Formulator for a nutritional softgel manufacturer that produces vitamins, medications, etc.
Pastor Cedric grew up in the Inglewood and Ladera Heights section of Los Angeles and has been married to his lovely wife, Karen Dixson-Nelms for the last 12 years.
He is the father of five children: a daughter (24), a son (20) and a set of 10-year-old, triplets (2 boys and girl). “The triplets are in fourth grade now and busy is not even close to describing how active they are,” he admits.
Pastor Cedric earned his B.A. degree in biology with a minor in psychology from Morehouse College in Atlanta (GA). Carrying a 52.33 handicap, Pastor Cedric is a member of the Rolling Green golf club (RGGC) and is on the Board of Directors as its Community Outreach Director. Rolling Greens Golf Club began with 22 original members in January 2011.
Since its inception, Rolling Greens Golf Club has grown to 28 members and is looking to begin the next season with more than 50 members.
It is an organized, competitive, annual golf league, dedicated to connecting individuals through the common ground of competition and camaraderie inherent in the game of golf. (Pastor Cedric, 2nd from right)
Rounds are played every first Saturday of the Month and Vante Williams serves as its president. “I want to introduce the game to as many of the youth in our community that I can and try to bring more women and men into golf. I hope to eventually make it a tentacle of our ministry and to hold workshops annually with my fellow club brothers being the catalyst,” says the Pastor.
In fact, this coming September, the club will host an amateur workshop for those that are interested in getting familiar with the game of golf.
“Our vision is to grow the golf club through the passion that is shared by the members and to be able to leave a legacy path for our children and others that we impact,” he states. Church meetings are held at 10:00 a.m. at the Doubletree Hotel, 2 Civic Plaza Drive in Carson, CA.
