Lisa Noble
(September 12, 2012)–Lisa L. Noble graduated from the Professional Golfers Career College (PGCC) in Orlando, Florida in April 2011 and she hasn’t looked back since. With her First Tee Assistant Coach Training Certification tight in-hand, Noble is ready to take on the world of golf. Her plans include teaching, training, educating and spreading the word to all she meets on the many benefits of the sport.
PGCC is the nation’s leading two-year accredited golf college, offering a specialized Associate’s degree in Professional Golf Management. On campus, students obtain a solid skill set in the nation’s top golf resort destinations, Temecula – California, Orlando – Florida, and Hilton Head, South Carolina. And the school motto: Get ahead of the game and turn your passion into a profession.
While attending the Orlando facility, Noble was exposed to highly-praised and awarded PGA professionals and she learned a lot about the inner-workings of the golf industry overall. Noble made friendships that will last a lifetime and she is thrilled with all that she accomplished while there.
In selecting the school, Noble was impressed by the fact that PGCC provided her with a well-rounded golf education. It is also the only institution that guarantees its students golf five days a week, with classes until noon and golf until dusk.
Every golfer has a first-time introduction to the game and Noble got hers as a youngster, after seeing how much her father enjoyed playing it.
“I became interested in golf after seeing a picture of my father–who was at the time in the Air Force–hitting a golf balls out to sea, off the deck of an aircraft carrier. I thought Wow, now that’s really cool,” says the Kinston, North Carolina native, “But I had to settle for hitting my balls on land.”
Today Noble, age 40, carries a handicap of about 14. She has not played since school and does not currently belong to any golf clubs or organizations. As a single mom, never married, with two boys to care for, Terry (9) and Piankhi (8), Noble has her hands full running daily errands, helping with homework and caring for her family.
“I made sure that my children knew about the game early in life and I introduced them to golf when they were ages 3 and 2 respectively, when I worked at the First Tee of Jacksonville. We all like golf tremendously and we try to play together whenever we get a chance.”
Noble is a nature lover and enjoys spending time outdoors in the sun and fresh air. She realizes the importance of keeping in top physical shape and knows that nothing good comes easy.
Over the years she has taken private golf lessons with some very notable trainers including the late Hal Morrison, former coach of the Coach East Carolina University’s Men’s Golf Team, Calvin Peete, a PGA Champions Tour player (now retired) and Earl Hawkins at his Hawkins Golf School in Clermont, Florida. Hawkins is a well sought out instructor and has over a decade of training under one of Golf Magazines’ Top 100 Instructors.
“Having golf instruction was a tremendous benefit to my game. It enabled me to see how instructions differ in their teaching strategy and the various focal points of each instructor’s theory,” says the beaming golf fashionista with her winning smile.
Most successful golfers know that one of the most important things a new or seasoned player can do is to continue their training. It never stops. Having instruction by a qualified trainer can keep you from forming bad habits and from hurting yourself with an incorrect swing and posture during rounds.
”My biggest challenge seems to be having the freedom to play at will on a regular basis. I mainly play by myself when I can’t find someone to hit the greens with.”
Noble attended Lenoir Community College in pursuit of an Associate of Science Degree in Court Reporting in Kinston, NC (1995–1998), Pitt Community College, Continual Education Courses in Greenville, NC (1993-1996) and East Carolina University for general studies (1989–1995).
She has worked as a First Tee Certified Assistant coach, high school golf coach, golf shop coordinator, photographer, historian, course commentator, policy & procedure implementator and in other positions.
With a full life, the distractions of motherhood, and a new career, many may ask: How does she stay motivated to play? Noble says, “I love people and I stay motivated by learning different aspects of the game and hearing others testimonies.”
When Noble is not golfing she loves to stay up on the latest styles and can be found browsing through the pro shop of a local course. She relishes outdoor activities, participating in various other sports, dancing, reading and travel.
