Elizabeth Ann Robinson, affectionately known as “Liz” passed away on June 12, 2022 at the age of 75. An avid amateur golfer, this lady with a big heart and tremendous love for the sport will receive the honor of induction into the Erie District Womens Golf Association (EDWGA) Hall of Fame. The induction will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at the Lake View Country Club, 8351 Station Road, North East, PA 16428.
Liz’s husband, Thomas “Mr. Rob” Robinson shared the news with this publication and graciously acknowledged the EDWGA’s notification letter of his wife’s induction.
Liz was the only Black American woman who competed in tournaments in the entire district of Erie, PA, and she served as President of the league at one time. The consistent winner won four Senior titles (1997-98, 2000, 2004.) In-between, she was winning course championships at Erie and Downing golf courses and City Couples titles with her husband Tom as a partner, Tom, who has served as Tournament Director for The Neck Bone Tour, says “Pretty good for a little Black girl from ‘Mule Town’ in Columbia, Tenn.”
Tom even penned his own personal tribute article to his wife in the African American Golfer’s Digest, “Let’s Toot a Horn for a Real Winner” (June 2019), accompanied by a plethora of news clippings that showcased Liz’s golf wins. “No one has any idea of the expanse of her record winnings,” said Tom. The couple marked their 40-year wedding anniversary in 2019.
Since 1953, the EDWGA Hall Of Fame has selected and saluted outstanding members with the organization’s highest honor. Within the Erie District Golf Association (EDGA) jurisdiction, there are over 24 golf courses and clubs where members can compete in tournaments and championships.

Members of the Erie District Womens Golf (EDWGA) Association are amateur women golfers, sixteen years or older, who have a current handicap index of 30.0 or less and are members in good standing of an Eighteen hole Erie County or Crawford County Golf Club and must be approved by the Executive Board. As a member, Liz was part of a group whose mission is to stimulate sportsmanship and promote golf standards through social and sports activities throughout the Erie area.
