Tiger Woods continues to be a major topic of discussion as the 2026 Masters Tournament approaches, with uncertainty still surrounding his potential participation. On Tuesday, he shared a brutally honest update on his chances of playing at this year’s Masters. Woods, now 50, has tried to keep his options open regarding a possible return to the 2026 Masters, set to begin on April 9. However, his recent comeback appearance with Jupiter Links Golf Club may have altered those plans.
On Tuesday night, Woods returned to professional golf for the first time since 2024 when his team at the Jupiter Links Golf Club lost to Los Angeles Golf Club in the 2026 TGL championship. It was his first professional appearance since the 2024 Open Championship.
Teaming up with Max Homa and Tom Kim, Woods showed early promise, launching an impressive 279-yard drive on the second hole that briefly echoed the form of his prime years. But the momentum didn’t last. After a series of lackluster holes, Woods struggled on the seventh, missing a short three-yard putt. The frustration was evident, as he reacted by striking his club into the turf.
Speaking after the defeat, Woods admitted: “We got our a** kicked. Three eagles in a row… I missed a short one to give them momentum, and we never got it back.” Out of action for the last 13 months after undergoing back surgery, the golf legend decided to return to action on the final night of the TGL season.
“This body… It doesn’t recover like it did when it was 24, 25,” Woods remarked. “I’ve had a couple bad injuries over the past years that I’ve had to fight through, and it’s taken time. But I keep trying.”
With much disappointment of his comeback performance, Wood revealed that he still hopes to compete at Augusta National. “I want to play. I love the tournament. I’m going to be there either way with The Loop, that’s going up there, as well as the champions dinner. We’ll see how it goes. I’ll be practicing, playing at home this week and keep trying to make progress.”
Recent news updates indicate that Woods remains in recovery with ongoing physical challenges that have limited his competitive schedule. While his name has appeared in connection with the tournament, there has been no definitive confirmation that he will tee it up at Augusta National.
Woods has carefully managed his appearances in recent years, choosing to compete only when he feels physically capable of handling the demands of championship-level golf. The Masters, played at Augusta National Golf Club, presents a unique test with its hilly terrain and long walks, making fitness a key factor in any decision.
Despite the uncertainty, fans remain hopeful. Woods’ history at Augusta National—where he has captured five Masters titles—adds to the anticipation each year, as even the possibility of his return generates significant attention across the golf world. For now, his status remains a question mark, with many watching closely for any official announcement. Whether or not he competes, Woods’ presence continues to influence the narrative leading into one of golf’s most iconic events.
