New York, NY, August 1, 2010—The African American Golfer’s Digest, the nations leading print publication and online portal for avid black golfers and AABoomers.com, an online website serving African American Baby Boomers, are excited to announce the designation of April 2011 as the inauguration of National Black Golf Month. National Black Golf Month plans to present programs and events centered on learning the game while growing participation in golf on a national scale for families and individuals.
“National Black Golf Month is an effort designed to attract more African Americans to the game of golf and to garner greater awareness of the sport and its health and career benefits to minorities and our communities,” said Debert Cook, publisher of the African American Golfer’s Digest. According to Ms. Cook, “There are currently several distinct months dedicated to recognizing and honoring African American efforts and achievements: February is Black History Month; June is Black Music Month, July is Black Family Month. Now, in April 2011 we will define a month that celebrates and encourages African Americans and their families to become active participants in golf and its $70 billion dollar industry.”
The well-known mantra in the sports industry: ‘A family that plays together-stays together,’ rings true, as the African American Golfer’s Digest and AA.Boomers.com launch this creative and collaborative effort with plans to provide free activities, education, instruction and interaction for all people interested and/or curious about the game.
“We are so excited about partnering with the African American Golfers Digest to create this venue to acknowledge African Americans’ growing interest and participation in Golf,” said Lois-Ann Clark, publisher of AABoomers.com. “According to the National Golf Foundation, there are 2.3 million African American golfers, whereby a significant number of are Baby Boomers.”
National Black Golf Month will focus on aligning cities, corporate and individual partners to host clinics, orientations, tournaments, workshops, speaking programs, networking events and other activities for men, women, youth and families. Golf courses and venues across the country are being sought to assist with the massive effort to provide hourly to day-long and weekend programs that center around golf.
