Tema County Golf Course has been renamed the “Centre of the World Golf Course,” as Ghana is pretty much at the center of the world, being both close to the equator and on the Greenwich Meridian, which represents 0° longitude. The actual Greenwich Meridian is actually located in the ocean off the coast of Ghana but the golf course is the closest to that location in which human beings live.
In 2019, the Ghana Tourism Development Company unveiled a plaque on the 7th hole which shows the separation of the Eastern and Western hemispheres on the course, a scientific fact which the Navy also recognizes.
Located in Greater Accra, Ghana, just 5-minutes drive from the Tema Motorway, this course was established in 1957 and, is open year-round. There is a driving range, practice area and nine water hazards. It boasts beautiful views, wide fairways flanked with neem trees, and the course rests on 5680 yards!
A small pro shop offers club rental and the onsite Tema Bar & Grill cooks-up a variety of menu options along with a full-service bar. Newly renovated, the restaurant is inviting and comfortable with a great indoor/outdoor atmosphere to relax for breakfast, lunch or a snack. The space is often used for more intimate parties and private events. It is also said that former Ghana president Kwame Nkrumah used to visit the course every year.
In October, African American Golfer’s Digest Publisher Debert Cook enjoyed a challenging round with Bronx, NY, golf enthusiast J.R. Dorsainvil and Ghana PGA Pro John “Wonders” Mawuli. “The sports and entertainment venue is absolutely a great place to play and practice,” says Ms. Cook. The facilities host weekly and monthly events which attract players and spectators from across the area.
