East Potomac, Langston and Rock Creek Golf Courses to Remain Open Under National Links Trust Agreement

by AAGD Staff

National Links Trust expressed satisfaction that Washington, D.C.’s municipal golf courses — East Potomac Golf Links, Langston Golf Course, and Rock Creek Park Golf — will remain open, accessible, and affordable for the communities that rely on them.

The organization confirmed it will continue operating all three courses and plans to build upon the progress achieved over the last five years. Officials also noted appreciation that employees now have greater certainty regarding the future of the facilities and the organization’s long-term plans.

The agreement allows National Links Trust to resume several major projects already underway. At Rock Creek Park Golf Course, construction is expected to restart on a new clubhouse, driving range, practice facilities, and maintenance facility as part of a larger restoration initiative designed to create a lasting community asset for golfers and non-golfers alike.

Plans for the property also include the restoration of nine holes of the historic regulation golf course originally designed by William Flynn. Additional developments are expected to include a new nine-hole par-three course, a Himalayas-style putting green, a restaurant, pollinator meadows, and an ecological trail network. National Links Trust said the project will also significantly expand its Jack Vardaman Workforce Development Program.

The organization also announced plans to deepen its partnership with First Tee while working alongside the Commanders Foundation to expand workforce development, mentorship, and scholarship opportunities at Langston Golf Course. Leaders from the organizations said they share a commitment to making golf more accessible while delivering meaningful community benefits through the city’s public golf facilities.

National Links Trust highlighted its ongoing partnership with the Western Golf Association and the Evans Scholars Foundation through its caddie program at Langston Golf Course. The Evans Scholars program is recognized as the nation’s largest scholarship program for caddies.

Officials said they are eager to continue helping expand the program’s presence in Washington, D.C., noting that the scholarship has had a life-changing impact on recipients and their families. Over the past three years, the organization has helped three young men and women earn the prestigious scholarship award.

National Links Trust also welcomed comments from Jessica Bowron, who stated that the National Park Service will follow the established compliance process previously used at Rock Creek Park Golf for any large-scale work planned at East Potomac.

Under the agreement, East Potomac Golf Links will continue operating as an affordable and accessible public golf facility for local residents and visitors.

National Links Trust thanked Donald Trump for helping reach an agreement that keeps Washington, D.C.’s three public golf courses open as welcoming and affordable community gathering spaces. The organization said it looks forward to continuing its work managing and operating the historic facilities while helping make the nation’s capital proud of its public golf system.
