The National Black Golf Hall of Fame (NBGHOF) will mark a major milestone in 2026 with its 40th Anniversary Celebration Weekend, joining forces with another historic institution celebrating an equally significant achievement—the 80th anniversary of Clearview Golf Club in East Canton, Ohio.
Scheduled for October 2–3, the celebration at Clearview will bring together two powerful legacies in African American golf. Together, the milestones represent 120 years of history, perseverance and achievement.
Founded in 1986 by the late Harold Dunovant, the National Black Golf Hall of Fame was established to recognize and preserve the accomplishments of African Americans who helped shape the game. Over four decades, the Hall has honored golfers, professionals, industry leaders, organizations and pioneers whose contributions have often extended far beyond the golf course.
Clearview Golf Club provides a fitting setting for this year’s celebration. Founded by William Powell, Clearview became the first golf course in the United States designed, built and operated by an African American. Powell created the course as a place where people of all backgrounds could enjoy the game. Eight decades later, the Powell family continues to preserve that vision.
The weekend’s National Black Hall of Fame Outing will serve as a prelude to future inductions, with the 2026 celebration recognizing the Hall’s 40-year journey while Clearview celebrates eight decades of service and legacy. Clearview Golf Club itself is scheduled to be inducted into the National Black Golf Hall of Fame in 2027.
The anniversary gathering is more than a celebration of dates on a calendar. It is a reminder of the people who opened doors, challenged barriers and created opportunities for generations to follow.
