Dr. Tommy Dorsey was on Facebook Live today sharing an overview of the programs and activities of his Orlando Minority Youth Golf Association (OMYGA). Along with offering updated program information, Dr. Dorsey presented helpful playing tips with graphics and advice on personal development, self-discipline and control. A general discussion of the golf swing was also included.
“This year we have 80-90 youth in our program,” said Dr. Dorsey to this publication following his weekly Facebook Live segment. The organization is geared to helping beginning and advanced golfers with practice sessions every Tuesday at The Callahan Neighborhood Center, and Wednesdays at Boggy Creek. Both sessions are held 4pm-6:00pm ET. On Sundays, OMYGA has tournament play on 10 acres at the Bobby Creek site. GolfNow, an online booking service for tee times at golf courses, is also helping the organization with finding playing site.
The OMYGA presents a Facebook Live and ZOOM video event every Friday at 3:30, running 40-minutes or longer. To view the event in its entirety, visit

OMYGA was founded in 1991 by Dr. T. J. Dorsey, a local dentist, in conjunction with the city of Orlando’s Recreation Department and the local Center for Drug-Free Living. Based in Orlando, Fla., the OMYGA continues to successfully introduce minority youth, ages 6 to 18, to the many benefits of the sport of golf. The organization’s passion has spread throughout the community and others have embraced their efforts, offering volunteer time, and other services.
