A 27-year-old man is facing multiple attempted murder charges after allegedly opening fire on a group of golfers at a Florida golf course, according to police.
Daniel Anthony Nobile was arrested Tuesday night, May 27, and charged with four counts of attempted homicide following a shooting incident at Abacoa Golf Club in Jupiter, Florida. Authorities say the four golfers were playing the third hole when shots rang out from a backyard across a lake, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by NBC affiliate WPTV.
One of the golfers initially believed the sounds were fireworks, until he saw a man pointing a handgun in their direction, the affidavit stated. Video footage from the scene captured the sound of gunshots as a golfer was receiving instruction on the driving range.
The golfers quickly got into their carts and drove away. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
The suspect, later identified as Nobile, allegedly returned inside the residence following the gunfire. Officers later located and detained him. During a search of the home’s garage, authorities recovered a firearm, according to the affidavit. None of the golfers involved reported any prior interaction with Nobile.
Nobile appeared in court Wednesday. His attorney requested a mental health evaluation, and the judge ordered that he be held without bond at the Palm Beach County Jail.
