Aaron Grimes, now 28-years-old, started playing golf at the age of 9, as part of the junior program run by the Western States Golf Association (WSGA) at Maggie Hathaway Par 3. Aaron played well enough in tournaments to consider playing in high school, but Compton High School didn’t have a golf team— COMPTON, no golf team—Surprised?
So, Aaron found his way to St. John Bosco High School where he played hard and put the work in for Coach Jack Hastert, who was thrilled to have him on the team. Aaron graduated from St. John Bosco High School and went on to attend Cal State Northridge. However, his career was hampered by injuries, so he turned to caddying to make money.
Aaron’s life has taken on a certain rhythm of practicing, paying the entry fee, competing, and caddying for the past 10 years. Despite setbacks, he has not given up on his dream of making it to the PGA Tour. Although he has not made it to the tour yet, Aaron has already achieved success in other ways, and he is just getting started.
Persistence & Determination
Aaron’s story is one of perseverance and determination. Despite facing challenges and setbacks, he continues to work towards his goals. His story serves as an inspiration to young golfers who are just starting out and may face similar challenges. It also highlights the importance of having access to programs like the WSGA junior program and supportive coaches like Coach Hastert, who helped Aaron find his way to success.
