In this week’s edition of The Slam this is quite a bit of stir surrounding Tiger Woods and this year’s Ryder Cup. Check This:

Although Woods wasn’t present in Wisconsin at Whistling Straits – you already know about his injuries from the SUV crash– he also did not want to take the spotlight away from players who were actually participating. Captain Steve Stricker said that he and his good friend Woods were in touch daily and that Woods was still a huge part of the team.

So, when it emerged that Woods had sent the American players an inspiring text to fire them up, everyone was curious and wanted to know what it said. According to National Club Golfer Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay even said it was something they “referred to a few times” during their 5&3 demolition of Rory McIlroy and Ian Poulter on the opening day.

As the American Ryder Cup team prepared for the competition the players talked of Tiger and his text frequently throughout the week, no one would reveal what it said, though, according to the article in National Club Golfer.

And then it was leaked to the press.

Not sure if you are ready to hear what Woods texted the team, so take a deep breath.

Woods’ text read: “Step on their necks!”

Can you believe Woods actually said that… in the wake of the George Floyd murder of May 2020, the horror of that attack of a Black man by white police office Derek Chauvin, seen in a video kneeling on Floyd’s neck until he died.

Sure, many people may lay claim to saying they’ve read some text sent by Woods that were way worse than this, still. Why would one even reference such a highly sensitized phrase? It only draws more dissent for a brutal action which took a Black man’s life.

And, in case you are not aware, statue honoring George Floyd in New York City’s Union Square Park was vandalized on this past Sunday, police said. According to police, a video showed an unidentified man on a skateboard throwing paint on the statue at approximately 10 a.m. then fleeing. Nearby statues of late Congressman John Lewis and Breonna Taylor, a Louisville, Kentucky, woman shot and killed by police last year, apparently weren’t touched.
