Get a sneak peek at LeBron James’ bar, eateries and more in old Akron Tangier

This will not be your grandparents’ Tangier.

And chances are they wouldn’t even recognize the place from the outside anymore.

The colorful Moroccan theme and its Vegas-style iconic dome are gone.

The toned down brown exterior paint is just a taste of the complete modern vibe going on inside as dozens of workers toil daily to transform the space into House Three Thirty.

The LeBron James Family Foundation purchased the restaurant and entertainment complex in 2020 and has some pretty ambitious plans for the place that for generations hosted everything from proms to wedding receptions to concerts by the likes of Tina Turner.

Some of the interior work is already done.

The large Smucker Hometown Hall is already up and running and available for rent and has hosted some wedding receptions. Just this week, it served as the dining room for the first large gathering since the pandemic of I Promise families for a Taco Tuesday dinner hosted by Old El Paso.

It also hosted an NBA All-Star Game event sponsored by Ruffles for Akron seventh-graders.

But there’s still a lot of work to be done before the place opens to general public sometime in 2023.

Situated about equal distance on West Market Street from the I Promise School and the I Promise Village, House Three Thirty â€” a nod to the 330 area code â€” will serve as center for families to gather to work, learn and play and a place for the general public to visit, too.
