Gildred Price-Barber

(December 5, 2012)–Gildred Price-Barber has seen half-a-century of life, but to her age is just a number. At 50 years old, the Texas native loved growing up in Gladewater, a small town where she says the village really did raise and support its children. Gildred later moved to Mineola (TX) and today resides in beautiful Aurora, Colorado among the rich history of the Black Rodeo and where dozens of Afro-American jazz artists have graced nearby Denver stages over the years.

gildredbarber2aGildred earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Business and Technology from East Texas State University and she is currently attending the University of Phoenix, working on a Masters in Criminal Justice Administration.

Happily single and enjoying life, she is the proud mother of twin teenage daughters, Destiny and Darolyn. Both girls are avid dancers; however, Gildred is patiently waiting for her two “darling jewels” to express an interest in golf.

Gildred learned to play the game from her now ex-husband and is a 26 handicap. She loves to travel and stays active in outings and at tournaments as a member of the Mile High Sandbaggers Golf Club, Western States Golf Association (WSGA), Sisters Across America (as an Associate Member) and the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA).

Colorado has 1.7% of the country’s Black-owned firms and for the last eight years Gildred has served as Vice President of Finance and part owner of a fast-growing insulation sales business, Insulation4Less.com, specializing in saving customers money with a green solution to their insulation needs. And, she and her partner have recently delved into the clothing industry by launching a popular medical scrubs business just two years ago, w2wScrubs.com.

gildredbarber_2In being an entrepreneur the ongoing daily responsibilities take a heavy toll on Gildred’s personal time, however, she knows the benefits that playing the game brings to her overall health and, to developing prime business relationships, so she tries to play at least 3-4 times a month.

“I love the game because it is so humbling,” says Gildred who has won several times at golf events this year including 1st low net at both the WSGA’s annual tournament, and at the Pacific Dessert Classic. She also won 1st low gross at Sisters Across America.

Gildred desires to get her handicap down to between 18-21 and states–as many golfers do, that putting is her biggest challenge. About 8 years ago she trained with a coach at Golftech which helped her with driving accuracy, but she cheerfully says, “I probably need to go back.”

Gildred has a great attitude about her game and she’s certain to continue to be an active part of the golfing scene for years to come.
