The Golden Tee Golf Club (GTGC) Open Scholarship Tournament is a purpose-driven golf event designed to combine competitive play with meaningful impact through education and opportunity. Scheduled for May 22-24 at Pecan Valley Golf Club 6400 Pecan Valley Drive, Fort Worth, TX, the 44th annual tournament supports scholarship initiatives that help student-athletes and young leaders pursue academic and professional goals while fostering character development through the game of golf.
The GTGC is a non-profit organization that was started in 1982 and incorporated in 1986. It established the tournament as an annual fundraising platform that reflects the organization’s long-standing commitment to mentorship, youth development, and access. Currently under the leadership of its President, Elvin E. Bennett, throughout its existence GTGC has been involved in helping a number of worthwhile clubs and organizations, including the American Red Cross, Alzheimer’s Association, Boy Scouts of America, The First Tee of Fort Worth, Goodfellow, NAACP, and a host of other clubs, churches, and organizational tournaments. The club is also a member of the Western Regional Golf Association.
Proceeds from the event directly benefit scholarship recipients, reinforcing the belief that golf can serve as a powerful vehicle for education, discipline, and life skills. The tournament attracts golfers, sponsors, community leaders, and supporters who share a passion for giving back while enjoying a quality golf experience.
Participants in the GTGC Open Scholarship Tournament compete in a welcoming yet competitive environment that emphasizes sportsmanship, networking, and community engagement. Beyond the fairways, the event offers opportunities for connection among educators, business leaders, families, and advocates who are invested in the next generation. The tournament’s scholarship focus helps ease the financial burden of higher education while encouraging recipients to pursue excellence both on and off the course.
The GTGC Open Scholarship Tournament has grown steadily in visibility and impact, drawing attention to the importance of diversity, inclusion, and access within golf and education. By aligning athletic competition with academic advancement, the tournament continues to strengthen its reputation as more than a sporting event—it is a mission-driven initiative with lasting community benefits.
Supporters and participants play a vital role in sustaining the tournament’s success. Sponsorships, player registrations, and donations help expand scholarship opportunities and ensure the program’s continued growth. Each year, the tournament reinforces the values of leadership, perseverance, and service that define the GTGC mission.
As anticipation builds for the 2026 edition, the GTGC Open Scholarship Tournament remains focused on empowering students, honoring the game’s traditions, and creating pathways to success through education.
