The Black Women in Insurance (BWII) Sisterhood Conference took place on February 20-21, 2024, at the Torrance Marriott Redondo Beach in Torrance, California. Themed: “Insure. Heal. Build,”, the conference was all about equipping women with tools to secure their financial futures, nurture mental and physical well-being, and empowering career growth. The event provided a space for Black women in the insurance industry to network, develop professionally, and foster a sense of community.

A key highlight of the conference was its incorporation of golf activities, offering attendees a unique opportunity to engage with the sport. LPGA professionals conducted lessons, helping participants refine their skills and deepen their appreciation for golf. Additionally, the TGL LA Golf truck made a special appearance, enhancing the interactive experience for attendees.

“There was no way I could pass up an opportunity to share my love of the game with a group of professional women,” says a leading instructor at the program Ms. Paula Pearson Tucker,  LPGA Professional and head golf professional for the City of Lauderhill (1999- present). “The Black Women in Insurance Sisterhood conference was ideal for bringing more of us to the game of golf and my organization Fore Life, Inc. and the LPGA were honored to sponsor this amazing event.”

Beyond golf, the conference featured a range of breakout sessions aimed at empowering attendees in their careers. These included “Level Up, Sis! Creating Executive Presence Through Professional Storytelling” and “Beyond the Bots: Future-Proofing Your Career in the Age of AI.” These sessions focused on leadership, personal branding, and adapting to technological advancements in the workplace.

The event underscored BWII’s commitment to creating opportunities for Black women in insurance through education, mentorship, and professional networking.

Building on the success of the 2024 conference, plans for the 2025 Sisterhood Conference were already in motion. The upcoming event promised an empowering discussion moderated by Renee Lunceford and featuring three trailblazing Black female LPGA golfers: Paula Pearson-Tucker, Mackenzie Mack, and Kendel Abrams. Their panel aimed to explore the parallels between professional sports and success in the insurance industry, focusing on discipline, resilience, and leadership.

Attendees of the 2025 event would also have the opportunity to participate in a golf clinic on February 22, led by Pearson-Tucker, Mack, and Abrams. Sponsored by the Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC), backed by influential figures like Shonda Rhimes and Serena Williams, the clinic would allow participants to put their lessons into action using a state-of-the-art Golf Simulator Trailer.

The BWII Sisterhood Conference continues to establish itself as a premier and equitable event in the insurance industry, bridging the gap between professional growth and personal development through innovative experiences like golf.
