Arthur Johnson (left), former manager for the late pro golfer Calvin Peete’s “Cal’s Kids” program, got a moment to catch up with two of his old friends: renowned caddie Carl Jackson (center) and retired American professional golfer Ben Crenshaw (right). The three gathered at the Augusta Museum of History this past April while in town for the 88th Edition of the Masters tournament. Jackson, a former caddy for Crenshaw and author of “The Carl Jackson Story,” hopes his book with be turned into a movie chronicling his life story.
Crenshaw won 19 events on the PGA Tour, including two major championships: the Masters Tournament in 1984 and 1995. He is nicknamed Gentle Ben. Carl Jackson is a renowned golf caddie at Augusta National Golf Club, known for his extensive experience at the Masters Tournament. Since 1961, he has missed only one Masters, setting a record with 54 appearances—the most by any caddie in the tournament’s history. Jackson has notably caddied for Ben Crenshaw 39 times, including during Crenshaw’s two Masters victories. His dedication and expertise have made him an iconic figure in the world of professional golf.
Ben Crenshaw won the Masters Tournament twice with Carl Jackson as his caddie, first in 1984 and then again in 1995. Jackson was set to caddie for Crenshaw in the 2015 Masters, but had to withdraw on Thursday morning due to sore ribs. His younger brother, Bud, stepped in as Crenshaw’s caddie instead. After Crenshaw finished the 18th hole on Friday, Jackson greeted him with an emotional hug. Crenshaw announced that the 2015 Masters—his 44th appearance—would be his last.
