“Keeping Our History Front And Center”

by John Perry

An Encore to the previously released blog:
TYRE NICHOLS, RHYTHM & RHYME FOR A SORROWFUL TIME

There’s one more thing I wanna say,
it’s February, Black History Month,
who really cares about Groundhog Day,

Acknowledging Jim Thorpe’s birthday was a good way to say,
we have to honor and give props to our own,
This is the month we need to do it, each and everyday;

We need to let “Punxsutawney Phil” go about his merry way,
and focus on Renee Powell, Jim Thorpe, Jim Dent,
those living legends that are still with us today;

Even people like “Marian Croak“,
who you probably won’t find anywhere in our history books,
so again we soak, “Hidden Figures” was swept under the rug
and caught us blindside.

Now with the Internet and Social Media
our role models and heroes are harder to hide,
Let’s continue to honor them and keep their stories alive,
and make sure they don’t get disappeared and pushed aside;

The month of February has to be known
more for “Black History Month” and not “Groundhog Day”,
And I challenge all of us, golfers or not, to keep it that way.
