Rumor has it that NBA star Stephen Curry rumored to be in talks with the PGA Tour regarding hosting an event. Presumably, he’d play the Bob Hope role at the Safeway Open next year, according to PGA.com. Hard to see how this would be a bad thing. Unfortunately, Curry isn’t expected to tee it up at the tournament.  The two-time NBA MVP is a golf enthusiast who loves both sports stays in great shape for each of them, but taking on a professionally hosted golf tournament is going to be challenging, at best.
ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported that Curry, a Golden State Warriors star point guard, seeks to host his own signature PGA Tour event. Curry’s team over at Octagon are hoping they can finalize a deal with the PGA tour that would allow the agency to work together with them to sell marketing and sponsorship deals. Should all this happen, the scheduled line-up would be for a fall 2019 tournament. Unclear from the speculation is what event that would be, perhaps it is fair to assume it could be the Safeway Open, which is played in Napa, California, the first week of October prior to the tour’s Asian swing.
Curry is a scratch golfer who opened up his skills to the public last August in the Web.com Tour’s Ellie Mae Classic. He played impressively, scoring with a pair of 74s that he later posted in the USGA handicap system.
