While golf is generally considered to be a safe sport, tragic incidents do occur from time to time. This time, an unfortunate accident occurred at Port Aransas in Texas when a woman, along with her daughter and friend, incurred injuries in a golf cart mishap, reported YahooNews.com.
Last week, Barbara Vipond also rented a cart, hoping to have a nice day with her daughter. A friend of Vipond, who was visiting for the weekend, had also joined the pair. But, good times were cut short after a 13-year-old girl, driving another cart, hit their golf cart from behind.
According to Kris 6 News, the trio had been thrown out of the car due to the impact. Vipond’s friend was stuck beneath it, but she eventually made it out. “She had her foot stuck up underneath it and the tire was on her head, amazingly she pulled out her foot, and moved it up off her head, and crawled out I was in shock and just thankful she was alive,” shared Vipond.
The victims were then rushed to the Corpus Christi Medical Center in Bay Area. Vipond revealed that she was bruised up and feeling sore post the incident. “I have pockets of blood that have formed, and my shoulder of course we are going to doctors and they are trying to see if the can fix me,” she said. After the incident, many are questioning whether minors are permitted to drive golf carts.
Can minors drive golf cart rentals?
While accidents involving golf carts aren’t unheard of, the golf cart that hit Vipond’s cart at Port Aransas was being driven by a minor, raising many eyebrows. But, Port Aransas Police Chief Scott Burroughs has revealed that golf carts also fall under the purview of regular traffic laws.
Per the police, teens driving golf carts without a license will face fines starting at $500. Additionally, their parents will also be subjected to charges. To rent golf carts, one must provide proof of car insurance and a valid license. Moreover, many rental companies also require the renter to be above 21 years of age.
As we look back in 2023 on Tiger Woods’ remarkable career, it will be essential that we have an in-depth knowledge of its inception. Born Eldrick Tont Woods – more popularly known by his nickname Tiger – in 1975 and gifted with natural ability, Earl Woods recognized and encouraged Tiger’s potential early on, leading him toward becoming a child prodigy. Tiger started playing golf at just two years old; by eight, he had already become an authority on junior circuit tournaments.
The Tiger Slam: an unprecedented reign of dominance
Woods had unprecedented levels of success in golf during the early 2000s, eventually reaching unprecedented heights of success and completing his legendary tiger slam feat. We will explore his rapid rise as a golfer and its lasting ramifications on sport.
Relentless determination has allowed this natural talent to flourish
Tiger Woods’ success can be traced to his natural talent, refined over years of laborious practice and unyielding dedication. His dedication only deepened from the very start of his career, as evidenced by numerous victories at Junior World Golf Championships to moving from professional tour golfing onto the amateur circuit. From 1994–1996 alone, he won three consecutive U.S. Amateur Championships – an achievement that has never been equaled.
Turning pro: an immediate experience
Woods announced his decision to become a professional golfer in August 1996, a milestone that would soon define his career. From almost instantly receiving endorsement deals from major companies like Nike and Titleist to winning two tournaments on the PGA Tour within months as a professional – establishing him as an irrepressible force – this early victory indicated Woods’ immense influence. However, his greatest feat would come years later.
Chasing greatness: in search of golf’s highest trophies
From his professional debut, it was clear that Woods had his sights set on winning major championships – the pinnacle of performance in golfing history. Woods made his first big statement at his debut major tournament as a professional at the 1997 Masters, not only winning it by an unprecedented 12-shot margin over the second-place finisher but setting new records by finishing 12 shots ahead. This victory signaled Woods’ quest for excellence, eventually leading to him dominating golf worldwide for years ahead.
Woods laid the groundwork for his epic feat in 2000 when he won three tournaments consecutively: the U.S. Open, the Open Championship and the PGA Championship. His stunning dominance raised expectations that he would become one of golf’s greatest legends. As each win crept closer to the 2001 Masters Tournament, suspense grew louder; all eyes turned toward Woods until finally, when Woods completed Tiger Slam by making one last putt and emerging victorious, everyone held their collective breath and celebrated as history was made!
An outstanding achievement leaves an indelible mark, forever changing lives
Woods’ accomplishments not only cemented him as one of the great golfers of all time, but they had far-reaching effects on the game of golf. Woods’ exhilarating playing style and unmatched success propelled golf into popular culture. His influence can be felt around the globe – inspiring young people everywhere to take up golf as a sport and strive to become world-class.
Influence of Tiger Woods’ style of play
Woods’ aggressive style of golf revolutionized the game, ushering in an age characterized by longer drives and increased emphasis on physical conditioning. His combination of brute force and dexterity set new benchmarks in competition between golfers, prompting others to enhance their own abilities to remain competitive with him – leading contemporary golf to become more physically demanding, exciting and competitive than ever.
Breaking barriers and transcending sports
Tiger Woods has had an immense influence on golf both through his success on the course and by breaking down boundaries and elevating the sport. Golf is generally associated with white people; because Tiger Woods is both African American and Asian American, he was a pioneer in breaking that mold. Due to his success, there is now a greater variety of players and fans of golf. Additionally, his philanthropy through The Tiger Woods Foundation has enabled young people from diverse backgrounds to pursue golf as their career choice and pursue their ambitions.
Leave behind a legacy that endures
As we consider Tiger Woods’ career journey from its inception, we recall his remarkable drive and skill that propelled him to the pinnacle of the golfing world. These qualities helped him ascend the rankings. His outstanding accomplishments – such as winning Tiger Slam – forever cemented his place in sporting history. Further, his impact can be felt both on and off the course as his success encouraged many people to start playing the game, challenged established norms and created lasting changes within it.
Confronting adversity and revenge on the pathway to redemption
As is true for any conversation about Woods’ career, any meaningful examination must begin by acknowledging his achievements despite all obstacles he has overcome on his journey. Tiger has faced physical ailments and personal setbacks that have proved formidable. Nonetheless, his ability to overcome such hardship has made for an engaging narrative. His triumph at this year’s Masters Tournament marks a testament to this resilience – it speaks volumes for his unyielding spirit and drive to succeed.
Future of golf without Tiger Woods
In 2023, golf’s future without Tiger Woods remains unclear. His influence and effect will still be felt long into the future; however, new talents have taken up leadership responsibilities since Woods left. These youngsters found motivation from him.
Retracing Tiger Woods’ early career can be a fascinating trip through his remarkable highs and lows as an athlete in sporting history. Woods has left an indelible mark on golf since his unassuming beginnings as a prodigy to his unrivaled supremacy during the Tiger Slam period. Those inspired by his accomplishments will continue to have their impact felt for many years.

Nayani Lewis Named Student Athlete of the Week by the Los Angeles Sentinel
Nayani Lewis, a senior at St. Monica Preparatory school has been named Student Athlete of the Week by the Los Angeles Sentinel. The accomplished student is having a great senior year and has been selected to attend the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) on a golf scholarship this fall.
Nayani’s official visit to the University was in February and it introduced her to the east coast, and she enjoyed the experience of seeing trees, which was different from her hometown of Los Angeles, Calif. During the visit, Nayani connected with Tiana Jones, the head coach of the women’s golf team at the public historically Black land-grant research university in Princess Anne, Maryland, and the encounter changed her future.
HOW IT STARTED
Nayani joined the Tee Divas and Tee Dudes (TDTD) Junior Golf Program in April 2021 after COVID-19 quarantine reintroduced her to golfing. Nayani’s experience with TDTD greatly improved her golfing skills and after spending stints at Culver City and Palisades high schools she then transferred to St. Monica Preparatory School. Her main reason was because of the school’s golf team and arts program, which go hand-in-hand for her. As a sophomore, the Advanced Placement Art student earned a 4.0 GPA there and became the captain of her high school golf team.
Nayani serves as the vice president of the Black Culture Club at St. Monica and researched their school’s patron saint, who is from Northern Africa. She made a Black mass where the members listened to Gospel music. The TDTD and Southern California Golf Association helped her to obtain funding to compete in tournaments and invited her to events on professional golf courses.
“I’ve been mentoring my teammates who are also my friends,” Nayani said to the Lis Angeles Sentinel. “In our league, there isn’t a lot of diversity, so making sure that we recruit young Black players, we recruit P.O.C. players is a priority for us.” Nayani emphasized the importance of diversity to her teammates recruited young Blacks and other persons of color as players.
Through her efforts, Nayani helped raise awareness of the St. Monica golf team, which led to the boy’s team having enough players to qualify for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). Nayani, is also the owner of a business called “Nayani’s Pet Portraits”, where she creates art of pets. Developing an art portfolio in school which required her to do 15 pieces with a theme, Nayani’s theme was, “How I felt other people viewed the Black experience during the 2020 riots and pandemic.” The talented young woman has already gained strong leadership skills and puts it to use managing the boy’s golf team while promoting diversity in her league.
Masterpiece Mindset: Tiger Woods Fan Tattoo Weird, or a Work of Art?
Well, well, well… What have we here? A mysterious stranger, obviously a devoted Tiger Woods fan, with a tattoo of the GOAT tweeted out on reddit user Potential_Aardvark35 and posted on Sunday, catching the attention of Caddie Network. It’s been blowing social media minds. Is it real? Is it weird? Who cares! This thing is a masterpiece! I mean, come on, guys. It’s art at its fines. And isn’t art supposed to be weird?
Maybe it’s the details shown in each link in that gold chain that represents one of Tiger’s wins. Who knows? All we know is that this guy (or gal) is the ultimate Tiger Woods fan. Sure, we’ve all watched Tiger win his 15 majors, collected tickets from tournaments, and maybe even dressed up in a Tiger costume (don’t judge). But this tattoo takes the cake. There are so many layers to the design —from the Presidents Cup pose to the Sunday red mock. And let’s not forget about the face tattoos… on the tattoo. Genius! All we can say is, get well soon, Tiger. We can’t wait to see what this guy (or gal) tattoos on their body next.

Al B. Quarles, II, Ed. D. —From Homeless Education Coordinator to Adjunct Faculty: A Journey of Giving Back
As a Regional Coordinator for Homeless Education for over 16 years, Al Quarles has had the opportunity to work with approximately 300 schools that serve Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness under the Federal McKinney-Vento Program. During this time, he was responsible for providing support, training, and technical assistance to these schools, as well as serving as a State and National presenter on homeless education.
Recently, the Willow Grove, PA, resident was presented with an opportunity to give back to young aspiring educators and those looking to advance their professional careers in the educational realm. As an adjunct faculty member with Villanova University, Quarles has been charged with developing a course for their counselor certification program that focuses on supporting at-risk high school youth with aspirations to attend an institution of higher learning. “This was an opportunity I could not refuse, as it provides me with a chance to share my expertise and experiences with the next generation of educators,” said Quarles.
It was Quarles’ doctoral dissertation advisorship at Gwynedd Mercy University which also gave him an opportunity to share his knowledge and experience with doctoral students. “These experiences have led me to realize that there is a great need for educators to possess empathy with high expectations and practical solutions for students, regardless of any social or emotional constraints that they may have experienced,” said the 55-year-old. “Therefore, the course I have developed for Villanova University is centered around the theme of providing a practical and pragmatic approach to supporting all students.”
Quarles’ last degree was a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, which he received in 2020 from Gwynedd Mercy University. This degree has provided him with the necessary tools and knowledge to take on leadership roles in the educational realm. With his extensive experience in homeless education he is confident that he has the skill set and life experience necessary to provide students with a valuable and practical education.
The course that he has developed for Villanova University focuses on supporting at-risk high school youth with aspirations to attend an institution of higher learning. It will provide a deep understanding of the unique challenges that these students face, and the practical skills necessary to support them in achieving their goals. The course will cover topics such as the impact of poverty on student achievement, mental health issues, and strategies for building relationships with students.
“My hope for my students is that they gain a sharpened lens of the educational landscape, and are equipped with practical solutions that can be immediately implemented in their own classrooms. I believe that empathy, high expectations, and practical solutions are necessary for all educators to possess in order to effectively support all students. I hope to instill these qualities in my students, and provide them with the necessary tools and knowledge to become successful educators.”
Quarles is the author of Burning Sands, and the avid golfer is founder of the 18-year-old Bogey Boyz Golf Club. He possesses a strong network of business professionals and has used his influence to grow more participation in the sport of golf. “I am excited to embark on this new journey as an adjunct faculty member with Villanova University.”
Certainly, Quarles’ extensive experience in homeless education, recent doctoral degree, and passion for educating the next generation of educators will enable him to provide a valuable and practical education to his students. “My hope is that they leave my course with a deeper understanding of the unique challenges that at-risk high school youth face, and the practical skills necessary to support them in achieving their goals.”

LIV Golf Adelaide Round Two Recap: Harold Varner’s strong play sets up Sunday showdown at LIV Golf Adelaide
GRANGE, Australia – After shooting his second consecutive 10-under 62, Talor Gooch will enter Sunday’s final round of LIV Golf Adelaide with a 10-shot advantage. Unless something unexpected happens, he’ll likely be holding the individual trophy at the end of the day.
But thanks to LIV Golf’s team competition, drama still remains at The Grange Golf Club. Gooch’s RangeGoats GC are just three shots ahead of Stinger GC in the team competition, and seven other teams are within 11 shots of third-place 4Aces GC.
The motivation to capture the first team win for Bubba Watson’s RangeGoats will be a key factor for the leader.
“It’s going to drive me even more to be aggressive and to go and put a good round up – not just coast to a win,” Gooch said. “We can’t just coast to a win as a team tomorrow, so we’ve got to go play some really good golf. …
“We want to be on that podium really bad. I can’t wait to spray Bubba straight in the face with champagne, so I’m hoping we can get it done.”
Gooch has certainly got it done through the first 36 holes this week. His 20 under total is the lowest score any LIV Golfer has reached after any round, and his 10-shot lead doubles the previous best 36-hole lead.
The numbers are unprecedented in LIV Golf’s young history, as well as Gooch’s career. Few golf tournaments in any tour have seen such a domination performance as Gooch has crafted through the first two rounds at the par-72 Grange course.
His closest pursuers are at 10 under – Stinger GC Captain Louis Oosthuizen and teammate Charl Schwartzel, 4Aces GC’s Pat Perez, Fireballs GC’s Abraham Ancer and Smash GC Captain Brooks Koepka, who won the previous LIV Golf event in Orlando.
“I don’t think anybody is catching him,” Koepka said after his second-round 7-under 65.
“I don’t know if it’s ever happened, especially after two rounds,” added Ancer, who also shot 65. “That’s insane.”
“To shoot 10-unders in a row around the track is sort of unheard of,” said Oosthuizen after his 66.
Gooch has 18 birdies and one eagle and has yet to suffer a bogey this week. He’s only missed three fairways and one green in regulation, leading the field in both those categories.
“Everything is just going my way,” Gooch said. “I’m hitting the ball where I want it to go … A lot of people have asked the last 24 hours, how did you do it, give me the secret basically. It’s like, if I had the secret, we would write that book and everyone would know it.”
The RangeGoats have never produced a podium finish, but now they’re on the verge of hoisting two trophies in Adelaide.
“We’re trying to get that podium for the first time,” Watson said, “but let’s get that podium with a win.”
