As the inaugural female recipient of this prestigious accolade, Powell joins the esteemed ranks of sports icons such as Jim Brown, Bob Feller, Bernie Kosar, and Ted Ginn Sr. Her groundbreaking achievements include being the second African American to compete on the LPGA Tour in 1967. This achievement followed in the footsteps of her father, who, two decades earlier, founded East Canton’s Clearview Golf Club, breaking barriers as the first integrated golf course.
