“Would you believe, I finally got my dad on the golf course for the first time, in his 80 years young!” wrote Jay Dillard, an architect and avid golfer who lives in the Bronx, NY. His father Pierre “Jiwe” Dillard is an engineer and popular musician who plays saxophone and flute. The active gentleman finally took some time out to join his son on the golf course last Friday.
“We played at Mosholu, since he is a beginner,” said son Jay. The public, 9-hole, Bronx, NY golf course was one of the first to open in the United States over a century ago. “He did really well, considering he waited until 75 to even pick up a golf club!”
When the duo completed their round at Mosholu Jay noticed that former New York Knicks basketball icon Larry Johnson had been playing behind them with some of his golf buddies. Johnson, was nice enough to take a picture with the two. Johnson had a stellar career in the NBA as a forward for the Charlotte Hornets (1991 – 1996) and the New York Knicks (1996 – 2010) and has been enjoying golf for many years.
“I have been trying get dad out for a while, just couldn’t get our darn schedules to line up….He is the busiest 80-year-old I know.” The father and son are both busy professionals, however, Pierre smartly heads south in the winters to enjoy the tropical island of Jamaica.
