Hold on to your golf caps! You’re about to witness an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look at Augusta National Golf Course as never before.
Set to release on Tuesday (March 16), The One in November, a new ESPN documentary produced in conjunction with Augusta National and Boardwalk Pictures, is a must-see TV for fans who have admired the prized property of Georgia’s most famous golf plot.
The half-hour film is filled with never-before-seen footage from on the grounds at Augusta National, beginning in the days leading up to last November’s Masters. Without question, golf fans will be privy to information and behind-the-scenes happenings of the 2020 Masters-during a time of Covid-19 — the first time in the history of the Masters being played without patrons in attendance.
The documentary shares details of how a frenzied staff, organizers, and Augusta National personnel handled this first-ever situation of a November competition. Viewers will learn how the logistics of the tournament were orchestrated to host an event during a national pandemic.
Firsthand interviews, including with top golfer Tiger Woods, Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley, and ESPN host Scott Van Pelt. Adding to the excitement of the documentary is the showing of rare footage of Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player’s pre-dawn warm-up and from inside the Augusta National clubhouse in preparation for Tiger Woods’ fifth Champions Dinner.
Augusta National is listed as one of the film’s co-creators with Boardwalk Pictures, a production house best known for its award-winning Netflix shows Last Chance U and Chef’s Table. Any fan of these shows can relate to the drama and similar cinematic style to Boardwalk’s better-known outfits.
The reason many may not have known about this production of the film is that (just like Augusta National) everything was done very secretively, on the down-low, and even on the morning of the documentary’s airing, the full promotional push of ESPN was not utilized.
Consider that ESPN, on Monday, even dropped its first of two mysterious trailers previewing the film, which shows members of Augusta National’s Golf Course horticultural team busy at work on Magnolia Lane.
The documentary airs at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday on ESPN for the first time and will have a series of screenings across the ESPN family of networks (ABC, ESPN and ESPN2) leading up to this year’s tournament.
On April 4, the program will become available for streaming on ESPN+ and on Masters.com.
