Tiger Woods’s daughter, Sam Alexis Woods, is present at the PNC Championship this weekend. Tiger, making his fourth appearance at the PNC Championship, is joined by his son, Charlie Woods. Despite having a daughter, Sam Alexis, Woods has consistently participated in the tournament exclusively with his son. The absence of the father-daughter duo at the PNC Championship raises questions about Sam Woods’s continual non-participation. The reason behind this lies in Sam’s affinity for another sport that has captured her interest.
Named after her grandfather’s nickname for her father, Sam Alexis was introduced to golf at a tender age. In 2007, during the AT&T National Press Conference, Woods expressed his deep affection for his then 2-week-old daughter, sharing with a smile that he had already placed a golf club in her tiny hands, saying, “[I put a golf club in her hand.] She couldn’t quite hold it. But it was there.” Despite her early exposure to golf, Sam did not pursue the sport as she grew older, as her passion lay elsewhere.
While she enjoys supporting her father from within the ropes, her heart is dedicated to soccer. The 16-year-old is more inclined towards soccer and actively participates in the sport. Woods has been a supportive presence at his daughter’s soccer matches and practice sessions. In a 2018 interview with Golf.com, Woods mentioned, “They’re [Sam and Charlie] keen on soccer.”
Furthermore, Sam Woods and her brother once declared Lionel Messi as their idol, playing a lighthearted joke on their father. While Woods’s younger child follows in his golfing footsteps, his eldest is carving her own path in soccer. Despite not having Sam play golf alongside him, Woods can always count on her cheering from the sidelines, while at least sharing the same passion for golf with Charlie Woods.
