According to NBC News, authorities in Florida reported that a tragic incident occurred when a 3-year-old child operating a golf cart struck and fatally injured a 7-year-old child who was standing in the front yard of a residence. The collision took place on private property along Orange River Boulevard in Fort Myers, as the younger child approached a curve. The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that the front of the golf cart collided with the 7-year-old, who was subsequently transported to the hospital but sadly did not survive. Fortunately, the 3-year-old involved in the incident did not sustain any injuries.
The crash is currently under investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate event. It is worth noting that earlier this year, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill that will impose new regulations on golf cart drivers. The law, set to take effect on October 1, mandates that individuals operating golf carts must be at least 15 years old and possess either a learner’s permit or a valid driver’s license if they are 16 or older. Additionally, the law requires anyone above the age of 18 to possess a government-issued identification document.
The aim of this legislation is to enhance safety and ensure that individuals operating golf carts possess the necessary skills and qualifications. By implementing these new regulations, Florida authorities hope to prevent unfortunate incidents like the one that occurred in this case and promote responsible and lawful usage of golf carts.
