PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (Dec. 11, 2015) – Three PGA of America programs, “2016 Ryder Cup One Year to Go Show,” “PGA of America 2015 Year in Review” and “2015 PGA Championship Highlight Show, presented by OMEGA- One Fine Day” will debut on Dec. 15 and 16 on Golf Channel.
2016 Ryder Cup One Year to Go Show
Debut: Tues., Dec. 15 – 6:30 p.m. EST; Re-Air: Wed., Dec. 16 – 12:30 a.m. EST
This 30-minute program, which is narrated by Tony Adamson and produced by European Tour Productions, captures all of the pomp and circumstance surrounding the One Year to Go Ryder Cup celebrations that took place in and around the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, Sept. 27-29.
The show elicits anticipation for next year’s 41st Ryder Cup through the lenses of United States Ryder Cup Captain Davis Love III and his counterpart European Captain Darren Clarke, as they meet for the first time in their official capacities at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
Their longstanding relationship as friends, rivals and captains is explored throughout the show, which includes plenty of behind-the-scenes images and banter as Love and Clarke navigate — among other events — a billiards matchup, a rapid-fire Q&A session on Periscope and a televised encounter with Golf Channel’s David Feherty.
Viewers will also hear Love and Clarke share their views on Hazeltine’s length and match-play suitability, the American’s quest for Ryder Cup redemption, and the crop of talented 20-somethings that have infiltrated the game of golf in recent years.
PGA of America 2015 Year in Review
Debut: Tues., Dec. 15 – 7 p.m. EST; Re-Airings: Wed. Dec. 16 at 1 a.m. and 1 p.m. EST
This one-hour program chronicles the PGA of America’s year of championships.
Hosted by David Marr III, the program opens with a recap of the Senior PGA Championship presented by KitchenAid, where Colin Montgomerie successfully defended the first major championship of his career, a four-stroke triumph on the Pete Dye Course at French Lick (Ind.) Resort.
From there, the review explores Inbee Park’s sixth major championship victory, which came in the landmark KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. She closed with a bogey-free 68 to coast to a five-shot win over Sei Young Kim at Westchester Country Club in Harrison, New York. Park, like Montgomerie, defended her title, but for a record-tying second time. The sixth major of Park’s career also established a new record among Asian-born players in America.
Although no title was defended, Jason Day’s initial major championship victory in the 97th PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin, was no less spectacular or historic. Day surged past Jordan Spieth, who was bidding to become the first player to win all three U.S.-based majors in a calendar year. Day’s three-stroke victory in a memorable duel culminated in him becoming the first player to post a 20-under-par total in a major championship.
The PGA Championship coverage includes the lone PGA Club Professional in the field to make the cut, Brian Gaffney. The PGA Head Professional at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, New York, Gaffney’s journey to weekend play at Whistling Straits began by surviving a five-way playoff at the PGA Professional Championship.
While Day, Park and Montgomerie all share championship pedigree gained or furthered in 2015, the PGA of America’s activities this year were not limited to its spectator championships.
The PGA Year in Review also documents Matt Dobyns second title at the PGA Professional Championship at Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Other PGA events include riveting playoff victories for Elizabeth Wang and Brad Dalke at the Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armor and Genesis Networks at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas; a rare PGA Cup setback for the United States; a new champion, John DalCorobbo, at the Senior PGA Professional National Championship presented by Mercedes-Benz USA; and for Andy Mickelson, the National Car Rental PGA Assistant Champion, a triumphant return to the game of golf.
In addition, the show chronicles the PGA Junior League Golf Championship at Walt Disney World Resort; the PGA Minority Collegiate Golf Championships at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida; and “One Year to Go” celebrations in advance of next year’s 41st Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota.
2015 PGA Championship Highlight Show, presented by OMEGA – One Fine Day
Debut: Wed., Dec. 16 – 10 p.m. EST
With Jordan Spieth bidding for golf history and Rory McIlroy making a remarkable return from injury to defend his title, the 97th PGA Championship was one of the most highly anticipated major championships in years.
Jim Nantz narrates this PGA of America Production which relives Jason Day’s victory and historic effort at the 97th PGA Championship, where he became the first player in golf’s rich history to finish 20-under in a major.
En route to becoming a PGA Champion, Day had to hold off the hard-charging Spieth, who ultimately finished second, three shots off the pace. Spieth, however, ended the week at the World No. 1 and registered the game’s single-season record for aggregate score in major championships at 54-under par.
The one-hour program is a round-by-round historical capsule that includes all of the week’s drama, shot making and interviews. Golf fans will enjoy their reintroduction to Whistling Straits, which hosted its third PGA in 11 years, and experiencing many of the behind-the-scenes events that accompany a PGA Championship.
