One of Donald Trump’s golf courses in New Jersey is continuing to fulfill its payment obligations for a $400,000 fine imposed in 2021. The fine stemmed from the golf course’s non-contestation of charges related to violating alcoholic beverage control laws in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred on August 30, 2015.
The incident, which took place at Trump National Golf Club in Colts Neck, involved a customer driving a Mini Cooper that flipped and rolled after going over a curb, resulting in the death of the car’s sole passenger. The driver was found to have a blood alcohol content exceeding the legal limit of .08. In January 2018, the driver pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide and received a sentence of three years of probation, 100 hours of community service, and substance-abuse counseling.
In 2019, the New Jersey attorney general’s office charged Trump’s club with serving alcohol to an individual who was “actually or apparently intoxicated” and providing alcohol on the golf course beyond the scope of its liquor license. Trump’s club chose not to contest the charges and, in 2021, agreed to pay the $400,000 fine in annual installments of $100,000.As of now, three years later, the golf club has fulfilled 75% of the fine, according to a spokesperson for the New Jersey attorney general. Allison Inserro stated, “This licensee is up to date with payments on the consent order, and there is one remaining payment due in October 2024.” Despite reaching out, spokespersons for the Trump Organization have not provided an immediate response for comment.
