Nia Adams Reflects on Her Life-Changing Day at WOCG Beginner Clinic
On May 19, 2025, Women of Color Golf (WOCG) hosted its inspiring Women’s Beginner Golf Clinic in partnership with the NFL Alumni Tampa Bay Chapter during the Super Bowl of Golf Tournament. The event took place at the scenic Carrollwood Golf and Country Club in Tampa, Florida, and provided a welcoming space for women new to the game to explore the sport, build confidence, and enjoy community.
WOCG is a nonprofit organization that works to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in golf by creating pathways for women of color to participate and thrive in the sport. The clinic aligns with their mission of not only teaching golf skills, but also fostering personal growth and long-term participation.
One participant, Nia Adams, left the clinic with more than just a swing. The Tampa native and U.S. Air Force veteran reflected emotionally during the debrief session on what the experience had taught her—not just about golf, but about herself.
“I learned today, I am much stronger than I think I am,” Nia said through tears, her voice filled with gratitude. Her words captured the deeper message behind the event: that golf can be a powerful mirror to life, revealing strength, patience, and resilience.
Nia, who will be turning 37 next month, shared her journey to the clinic. A friend spotted the event’s announcement on LinkedIn and encouraged her to attend. With a background in Information Technology and a concentration in Information Security, Nia has always embraced challenges, and the clinic provided a perfect match for her love of learning and growth.
“I signed up for the clinic because I love learning new things, I love challenges, and I love finding new hobbies that fit my lifestyle,” Nia said. “Finding out that I had a passion for golf has positively impacted my life because it’s something I can enjoy for the rest of my life at any age. It’s relaxing, challenging, fun, competitive… but most of all, golf is what you make it, and I love that the most.”
The clinic provided not only instruction and hands-on experience for new golfers but also a supportive and encouraging environment. The partnership with the NFL Alumni Tampa Bay Chapter brought additional visibility to the initiative and highlighted the importance of inclusivity in sports traditionally seen as exclusive.
Golf, often viewed as a solitary or elite pursuit, was made accessible and inviting for all who attended. WOCG continues to lead the way in growing the game among underrepresented communities, proving that the course can be a place for healing, joy, and self-discovery.
Events like this one are helping shift the narrative and diversify the game, one powerful swing at a time.
