Roaring Lambs Set Up GoFundMe Campaign

by Debert Cook

Dear Confidants, Constituents and Comrades,

roaring lambs_logoFor the past thirty years, I have dedicated my life to giving young children an opportunity to learn the game of golf, giving them the necessary tools to sharpen their skills, which has allowed many of them to play golf at a level recognized by Division I Collegiate Golf Coaches, and the ability to compete at the professional level.

Young people who have achieved academic excellence—coupled with their golfing skills, has made so many youth welcomed additions in their communities and leaders in society as a whole.

All races, creeds, religions, social, and economic backgrounds attend Roaring Lambs International Junior Golf Academy.

From 1986 to 2014,  80% of all students who attended Roaring Lambs during that period were children of color (African American,  Filipino,  Asian, Ethnic Groups of India,  Hispanic, Native American, with the remaining  20% Caucasian).  95% of the children during that period were young boys with the remaining 5% girls.

Beginning 2014,  to this current date, the racial and ethnic composition of students who attend Roaring Lambs remain the same; however 95% are GIRLS  and 5% are BOY’S.

It is very important that the young ladies in our program are given the opportunities to excel in golf at the highest level same as our young boys. Therefore some of our parents have started a fundraising campaign to help level the playing field.

Roaring Lambs is in need of class room space, golf course fees, range balls and an overall practice facility. We need tournament fees, U.S. Kids teaching tools, uniforms, a van (or bus) for traveling to classes in addition to tournaments. Camera, Video recording equipment.  These items are essential to competing and keeping up in the world of STEM!

We need expert, experienced tutor teacher’s in all areas (mental, physical, emotional, spiritual and nutritional). We need expert professional golf instructors and professional caddie instructors.  The bottom line is WE NEED MONEY and LOTS of it!  Please donate at our GoFundMe page.

The Parent Fundraising Campaign is asking for $15,000 and we appreciate whatever you feel in your heart to give; but in the real world we need a million plus dollars annually just to stay on course.

The only way young girls—especially minority girls—to remain in this billion dollar business is to educate them to all of the opportunities that are available on and off the golf courses.  Many of the decisions for golf are made in the board room but they start on the tee box,  proceed down the fairways , hole-out on the putting greens and end up in the club house dining room, or grill, where guys enjoy a great steak, a stiff whiskey—or the beverage of choice. Some clubs also provide a Poker or Cigar Room where ladies are (or were) prohibited.

The needs of girls differ from those of boys.  There were times we could give a boy a rock and a stick, and he would make up a game to play and be happy.  Unfortunately, this does not hold true today for boys, and certainly not our girls.

Girls are not identifying with golf at the rate we are reporting to the powerful decision-makers , especially African American girls, because, they still do not see— or can identify with—leaders, professional or successful women golfers that look like them.

Roaring Lambs International Junior Golf Academy is striving to train, equip, educate, arm, and keep our minority girls in the game!

PLEASE HELP ME to continue helping our youth to get in the game, stay in the game, remain First-Class, and on equal base!

Sincere Thanks.
