Down under is taking on a whole new meaning as the U.S. Presidents Cup team arrived in Melbourne, Australia for this week’s matches.  Under the weather and under schedule.  Venturing on the 26-hour trip, Woods and his teammates had embarked from the Bahamas.  Most of the players took advantage of the long-haul flight to catch-up on their ‘beauty rest,’ while others did what most passengers do on these extended length flights, watch movies, listen to music, play online chess, checkers or other video games.  Others got physical treatments and discussed on-course strategies.

After much controversy surrounding Woods selecting himself as team captain. According to SBD, he is a favorite of viewers of the game, no doubt.  Woods also chose Tony Finau, who will make his Presidents Cup debut; Gary Woodland, the reigning United States Open champion, who will also make his first appearance in the event; and Patrick Reed, making his third appearance.

After arriving into Melbourne at 12:30 p.m. (local time), reportedly, Justin Thomas was still half-asleep. “Just to have the ability for guys to hang out and walk around, there was a lot of room. It was good,  It was a day to kill in a tin can,” woods, captain of this year’s team was heard overheard saying.

“Tiger Woods will be playing and taking on the role of captain at this year’s Presidents Cup. The last time there was a playing captain was back in 1994 (Hale Irwin). It’s most likely that Tiger will play over 2.5 matches.”

Being in Melbourne on Monday, many of the team players headed straight for their practice rounds.  However, the American players will not have their turn until Tuesday at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.  The 4-day, 34-match format for The President’s Cup includes sessions of foursomes, fourball and singles match play and runs December 11-15.
