With all the chatter following this weekend’s PNC Championship, the debut of Tiger and his son Charlie, and who’s caddying for whom, I thought it only proper to take a look at the Black caddy’s who have had the pleasure of being on the bag of Mr. Woods.
Tiger had two African American caddies in his career, to my knowledge. The first was Ron Matthew (aka) “Graphite”, who caddied for Tiger in his first PGA debut at the 1992 Nissan Open in Los Angeles.
The second was Tommy “Burnt Biscuit” Bennett, an Augusta National caddie who burned his leg as a kid trying to steal his Grandma’s freshly baked biscuits. He caddied for Tiger in his 1995 amateur debut at the Masters.
Tiger Woods winning percentage of 22.8, is the best in the history of golf.
Ben Hogan is second at 21.3
Byron Nelson is third at 18.1
Sam Snead is fourth at 14.0
Henry Picard if fifth at 12.9
Jack Nicklaus is sixth at 12.2
Tiger has 82 wins currently
Snead has 82 wins
Nicklaus has 73 wins
Hogan has 64 wins
Nelson has 52 wins
Finally, in the advent of the upcoming World Golf Hall of Fane inductions, congratulations go out to Tiger, and to the rest of the 2022 class nominees who will be sharing the honor of being inducted on March 9, 2022, during The Player’s Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
