The Carl M. Freeman Foundation (CMFF) announces a $600,000 grant to National Links Trust (NLT) over two years. The grant will support the construction of a new clubhouse and driving range at Rock Creek Park and operational improvements as well as programs for local youth at Langston Golf Course. Also announced is the Joshua M. Freeman Scholarships to support NLT’s workforce development program.
Joshua Freeman was a passionate philanthropist who knew the importance of giving back. In addition to the Freeman Companies, he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Carl M. Freeman Foundation, continuing his father’s legacy of giving back to the areas where the Carl M. Freeman Companies do business. A portion of the gift will be used to fund scholarships for college-bound young men and women working as interns and golf caddies at the NLT courses.
“The game of golf provides transformational impact to the lives of players and community members alike, said Michelle Freeman, President and Chair of the Carl M. Freeman Foundation. “The Carl M. Freeman Foundation honors Joshua M. Freeman on the 15th anniversary of his death with a legacy grant to support NLT’s vision to restore the most storied municipal courses in our nation’s capital and increase accessibility for underserved youth. We agree with National Links Trust that golf, particularly municipal golf, can and should provide easy and affordable access to the game and are thrilled to offer support for programs and course enhancements.”
“We cannot thank the Carl M Freeman Foundation enough for this monumental gift that will allow NLT to begin executing our larger course renovation projects. This donation caps off an amazing two days at our first inaugural Symposium on Municipal Golf and we are so excited to continue transforming municipal golf in the district,” said a NLT spokesperson.
