The public is invited to join the National Links Trust on Saturday, April 9 from 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the historic Langston Golf Course, 2600 Benning Rd NE, Washington, DC 20002, for a special Lee Elder Day celebration. This event will honor Mr. Elder’s legacy in the game of golf and celebrate his contributions. Lee Elder (July 14, 1934-November 28, 2021) in 1975, he became the first African-American to play in the Masters Tournament.
In 1959, Elder turned professional and joined the United Golfers Association (UGA) where he dominated the all-Black group. In 1966, he won 18 of 22 UGA tournaments that he participated in. The next year, he won a fourth UGA National Negro Open Championship.
This Lee Elder Day celebration will include a Lee Elder portrait student art contest, par 3 contest, food truck, and more. Registration for the event can be found HERE.
